MotoGP: Gresini criticises de Angelis for crash

MotoGP: Gresini criticises de Angelis for crash

Alex de Angelis was criticised by his Gresini Honda team boss after crashing out on the first lap of the Dutch TT at Assen.

The MotoGP rookie took an excellent fourth place at Mugello at the beginning of the month, but has fallen in each of the three races since.

Fausto Gresini was not impressed with today's accident and called for his rider to be more cautious in races.

"I'm not happy about Alex's result," he said. "It's never good to crash on the first lap, especially after the crashes at Barcelona and Donington.

"He always shows great potential in practice but hasn't been able to carry it through to the races recently, so maybe it's time for a more careful approach."

De Angelis said he was caught out by cold tyres in today's crash, in which he hurt a finger but escaped significant injury.

"I'd barely opened the throttle when the bike lost grip and threw me into the air," he said. "It was probably that the tyre wasn't up to temperature and I just lost control, the rear came around and I crashed.

"Luckily I'm not hurt and I'm looking forward to the next race."
