The Spaniard lamented a drop in the performance of his Fiat Yamaha engine during the first half of the race and finished sixth.
"The race hasn't gone as well as I had expected, because on lap ten the engine performance dropped," Lorenzo told Italia1 television.
"It's the new electronic fuel check that calculated that if I kept going like that I wouldn't have got to the end of the race, so that's how it lost out."
Lorenzo, who after a stunning first part of the season suffered several injuries through crashes and even had to miss the race at Barcelona, reckons the most important thing for him is to finish the races and avoid further accidents.
"In the first races I never crashed, I did three pole positions and three podiums with a victory in Portugal," he said.
"After the Friday crash in China everything started going bad, so now it's better to get to the finish, even if sixth, seventh or eighth, than crash one more time.
"The important thing is to finish the race and always improve a little bit. We've gone a bit faster than at Donington and we'll improve a bit more in Germany."
The next race is the German Grand Prix in two weeks' time.
